Atheists believe that Science has refuted religion; unsurprisingly religionists do not.
So everyone is happy.
just want to share this amazing debate!
caltech cosmologist and physicist sean carroll teams up with skeptic magazine publisher and science historian michael shermer in this epic debate with noted conservative author and king's college president dinesh d'souza and mit physicist ian hutchinson as they go head-to-head over one of the most controversial issues of our age.
as science pushes deeper into territory once the province of religion, with questions such as why there is something rather than nothing?, where did the universe come from?, how did life arise?, what was the origin of morality?, and others, inevitable conflicts arise over the best approach to answer them.
Atheists believe that Science has refuted religion; unsurprisingly religionists do not.
So everyone is happy.
in contemplating my current beliefs in life right now, it occured to me that my views as an agnostic would probably make for a strange funeral service if my friends and family were to have one.
strange in that most funeral services always have some mention of god, and some religious context with afterlife explanations.
has anyone ever been to a non-religious funeral service for someone who was atheist or agnostic and what was it like?
Christians watch their own funeral from above.
Atheists take their own funeral lying down.
james_woods “She was a very brilliant person who also had serious emotional problems. ”
I can understand you being upset that your friend has gone from the forum. There are a lot of nice people here. The problem is they missed the ‘brilliant.’ We all do the best we can.
I can’t say I will miss her; she spoilt a lot of threads in an attempt to get constant attention. A lot of other people here are also trying to work out painful issues, so there is bound to be friction at times. I hope she finds the sort of attention she really needs.
SweetBabyCheezits You have found me out. My church is a village pub called The George & Dragon. Here all matters to do with life, existence, and the effect of sugar on yeast, are thrashed out.
I have met George but have yet to meet his wife!

There is no such thing as an Innocent Man. Adam sinned and therefore we have all sinned.
It's in the Bible so it must be true.
NewChapter Glad it appealed to you. The words are not mine.
It's - Cole Porter's lyrics, 'Just One Of Those Things.'
It was just one of those things
Just one of those crazy flings
One of those bells that now and then rings
Just one of those things
It was just one of those nights
Just one of those fabulous flights
A trip to the moon on gossamer wings
Just one of those things
If we'd thought a bit about the end of it
When we started painting the town
We'd have been aware that our love affair
Was too hot not to cool down
So good-bye, dear, and amen
Here's hoping we meet now and then
It was great fun
But it was just one of those things
james_woods Prunes are a good laxative but no one around here needs any help.

It is a terrible thing to offend the gods for they will wreak a terrible vengeance and consume all before them and behind them and above and below. It is written in the runes.
